I love the beach. The sound of the ocean, the sun on my face, everything about the beach is my happy place. Growing up in Texas Cancun was a fairly common place for family friends to vacation so it has always been on my list of places to visit.
John and I decided to take a long weekend in Cancun as a mini second honeymoon. We used points to stay at the Hyatt Zilara, an all-inclusive adults only property. It is my favorite all-inclusive hotel and I always recommend it to any friends traveling to Cancun.
The Room:
The rooms were amazing. Every room here is a suite with a Jacuzzi tub overlooking the ocean. The terrace has a hammock that was perfect for an afternoon nap. Because John had status with Hyatt we were upgraded to an ocean view junior suite.
Activities:
Shot making class – We arrived a little early to the hotel so we decided to stop by the bar before wandering around the grounds. Turns out we were just in time for shot making class. The hotel event coordinator and bartenders showed us how to make a few different shots. The jellyfish shot was John’s favorite.
Martini mixing class – Since we enjoyed the shot making class so much we decided to try out the martini mixing class. We learned about the difference in shaken and stirred, and how long to mix each martini for the perfect result.
Bike ride to town – Every morning the hotel offers a guided bike ride into downtown Cancun. We figured this was the perfect way to get in a little exercise on our vacation. They explained a bit about the area and we were able to see where to go back into town for some shopping. On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a spot overlooking the lagoon and spotted a crocodile sunbathing on the shore (don’t worry, there was a fence between us).
Food:
Chef’s Plate – This restaurant is available to those staying in premium suites. It is a 6 course dinner served at a group table. We loved our experience and made some new friends to spend the weekend with.
Asiana – We stopped in for a quick lunch after a morning on the beach, and this ended up being our favorite restaurant. They don’t offer Teppanyaki for lunch, so we opted for the sushi. This is probably the best ahi tuna tower I’ve ever had.
La Adelita Cantina – This is a great place for a light dinner. They serve a wide variety of tapas. The best thing here however was their flaming coffee.
Pelicanos – I found a new food love here. Chilaquiles. Being from Texas, give me some chips and salsa and I’m a happy girl. Discovering chilaquiles finally gave me a way to eat chips and salsa for breakfast!
